GREENVILLE, S.C. - The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced on Monday their weekly recipients for the NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week. OUAZ men's soccer forward Ricardo Navarro (FR/Inglewood, CA) was named the Men's Soccer Player of the Week by the NCCAA.
"I am so proud of Richie for earning this award," said OUAZ head men's soccer coach Matt Gow. "Scoring in five consecutive games is a massive accomplishment and he deserves this award very much."
Gow continued, "I am also proud of the team! Any time one of our players gets an award, it is a testament to the work of the team."
Each student-athlete has been nominated by his/her respective institution and exemplifies the Christian ideals held by the NCCAA. Accomplishments are listed for the preceding week-Monday through Sunday.
Ricardo Navarro, a freshman from Inglewood, California, led the Spirit to a 2-1 week with his four goals. Navarro scored two goals in a win over Soka University, while scoring one goal in both the loss to Hope International University and the win over San Diego Christian University. Navarro had a total of 11 shots, with 10 being on goal. On the season, Navarro has scored seven total goals and has tallied one assist in five games played. He has already scored two game-winning goals on the season and leads OUAZ with 17 total shots on the season.
Next up for the Spirit, is a quick roadtrip up north to Prescott, Arizona, for a match-up at Embry-Riddle University this Thursday September 7th at 7pm.
