Cuyamaca, Calif. - The Ottawa University Arizona men's soccer team shutout San Diego Christian College on Saturday afternoon by a final of 4-0 in Cuyamaca, California.
With the victory, the Spirit improve to 3-2 overall on the season. With the loss, San Diego Christian College falls to 2-2 on the season.
"I am proud of our guys today and the way they responded coming off of our last performance," said OUAZ head men's soccer coach Matt Gow. "It was a complete team effort again today, and that allowed us to have such a dominating performance."
Gow continued, "I am excited for us to get back to work this week and prepare for a good Embry-Riddle team."
OUAZ and San Diego Christian battled hard for the first 30 minutes, before the floodgates opened and the Spirit opened the game up. In the 31st minute, Eduardo Soriano III (FR/Las Vegas, NV) scored a goal to break the scoreless tie and give OUAZ the early 1-0 lead.
Less than six minutes later, Omar Centeno (SO/Los Angeles, CA) found Andric McGill (FR/McPherson, KS) for the games' second goal, advancing OUAZ's lead to 2-0. That lead would hold into halftime for the Spirit.
In the second half, Andric McGill notched his second goal of the match in the 47th minute to extend OUAZ's lead to 3-0.
Ricardo Navarro (FR/Inglewood, CA) added the game's final goal in the 67th minute, to seal the 4-0 victory for the Spirit. The goal, was Navarro's sixth of the season, which currently ranks him first among all players in the NCCAA.
In goal for the Spirit, Kaden Jobe (FR/Wichita, KS) picked up the shutout win. As a team, OUAZ outshot San Diego Christian College 21-3, with 12 of the shots going on goal for the Spirit and just one shot wound up on goal for the Hawks. OUAZ also finished with five corner kicks in the match, to just one for San Diego Christian.
Next up for the Spirit, is a quick roadtrip up north to Prescott, Arizona, for a match-up at Embry-Riddle University on Thursday September 7th at 7pm.
