With the loss, OUAZ falls to 4-1 overall on the season. With the victory, La Sierra University improves to 2-0 on the season.
"I am very proud of what the girls have accomplished so far this season," said OUAZ head women's soccer coach Skelly Kellar. "I thought we battled hard tonight and came up a little short."
Kellar continued, "we will use this upcoming week to heal up and keep working on the things we need to do, in order to improve and get better."
It was a defensive battle on Saturday night in Riverside between the Spirit and the Golden Eagles. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of the match.
In the second half, La Sierra University attacked in the games' 51st minute for the first goal of the contest. Monica Santana found Andrea Sida for the game's first tally, sending the Golden Eagles ahead at 1-0.
In the games' final minute, La Sierra put the game away for good with a goal by Hanna Kanagawa; giving the Golden Eagles the 2-0 lead.
The stat sheet was eerily similar for both OUAZ and La Sierra University, as both teams finished with eight shots a piece, and two corner kicks each. The Golden Eagles edged OUAZ with five shots on goal, to the Spirit's three shots on goal.
